Rutgers Master Gardeners support agricultural and horticultural events in our community. We are active at a variety of events during the 10 days of the NJ State Fair, Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in Augusta, NJ. Master Gardeners man an educational table in The Conservatory for the duration of the fair, teaching gardening practices and answering all "Ask a Master" gardening questions.  We accompany seniors visiting the fair on Senior Day, set up children's activities for Children's Day and participate in Green Day activities (environmental and sustainable practices education). Rutgers Master Gardeners also help facilitate the Flower and Garden Expo in The Conservatory during the fair.

The Flower and Garden Expo at the NJ State Fair, Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in Augusta, NJ has had a long tradition and is run by a group of NJ State Fair volunteers. The Professional Division has obtained well known judges—Ken Druse, photographer and author, Mary Jasch, publisher of DIG IT! Magazine, Lou Bauer from Greenwood Gardens, and Vicki Johnson, local columnist.  National Garden Club judges also volunteer.

The NJ State Fair Flower and Garden Expo Committee meets throughout the year deciding on themes and categories.  The show is meant to be FUN as well as educational.  It is an opportunity to see the variety of flowers that can be grown locally as well as be inspired by creative uses with containers and arrangements. There is also a Junior Division where children can enter a creation they have made or flowers they have grown. Every child who enters receives a ribbon.
